Trip Facts

  • Grade : ModerateOn a moderate level trip, you can expect to be walking or trekking for four to five hours a day, but there may be longer or more challenging days involved. A good level of fitness and stamina is recommended.
  • Trip Mode : Tea House This is a relatively cheap way of experiencing Nepal’s mountainous regions, where meals and accommodation are provided at regular intervals along the route. This is probably the most popular method of trekking, as it provides basic accommodation and nutritious food, without having to brave a night’s camping while simultaneously not blowing your trip’s budget.
  • Duration : 10 Days
  • Maximum Altitude : 3610m
  • Best Season : January-December January December

The Helambu valley trek is unique, in that the start of the trail can be accessed after a short bus ride from central Kathmandu. After a bus journey of only one-and-a-half hours, you’ll be surprised to find how unspoilt the Helambu route is. You’ll experience a real diversity on this route, and come close to the border with Tibet – meaning you’ll see plenty of Buddhist monasteries along the way. The people living in this region are Nepali, but are descended from Tibetan families – meaning this area is also famous for its rich, diverse cultural heritage.

The Helambu valley Trek begins from Sundarijal. After about an hour's walk, you will enter the Shivapuri National Park. From here, you’ll visit Chisopani (literally, cold water), Kutumsang, Thadepati and Sermathang. The trek finishes at the Melamchi Pul Bazar, deep in the Helambu region.
