Spring (March – May)
During Spring you will experience warm temperatures at lower altitudes and moderate temperatures higher up. The chances of clear, unobstructed mountain views are good, and it is also a good time to see Nepal’s flowers blossom.
Autumn (September – November)
This is the preferred trekking season in Nepal. You will be almost guaranteed excellent mountain views, but be wary – this is the peak trekking season in Nepal, so be sure to book your flights in advance and be prepared for more crowded trekking routes. During this time, you’ll also be able to see and participate in the biggest festivals in Nepal – Dasain and Tihar.
Along this trek, the annual glacial melt of the Annapurna peaks collect to form what is thought to be the highest lake in the world. Hindu pilgrims come to visit this lake, convinced it is the manifestation of a holy, mythical, Hindu lake.
The trek will start, as the Annapurna Circuit does, from Besisahar, and along the Marshyangdi River. You will be treated immediately to fantastic views of Manaslu and Himal Chuli, in the east. This route is specially customised so that you can pass through the village of Khanshar (known as the Last Village of Nepal), and to the Tilicho lake, rather than along the well-trodden path of the circuit.
After visiting the lake, you will cross the Thorung La pass (5,416m). From here, you will walk to another pilgrimage spot, Muktinath, home to temples considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists. From here, you will descend to the beautiful town of Jomsom, home to a small airport and from where you will take short, scenic flight back to the lakeside haven of Pokhara.
