Trip ratings
As a handy reference for our customers, we’ve given all of our treks and climbing expeditions a rating, so you can gauge their difficulty. There are, of course, many factors that will contribute to the difficulty of a trip, including the terrain, altitude, length of the walking days and the likely weather conditions – many of which are changeable or can be affected by elements outside of our control (like the weather!) However, we have tried to make the system as clear as possible, and hope that you find this facility useful. If you require any further information about a particular route or itinerary, please feel free to contact us.
We always recommend that you read about the itinerary on our website before booking. For your reference, here is an explanation of the ratings system we have used:
Leisurely
Many of the activities are optional. The itinerary is highly customisable, based on your own preferences. You will not be expected to have prior experience or an advanced level of physical fitness.
Easy
You don’t need to be in great shape for trips with this rating, but it’s good to have at least a basic level of fitness. This category generally includes on-foot sightseeing, with optional day hikes that might be as long as three or four hours.
Moderate
On a moderate level trip, you can expect to be walking or trekking for four to five hours a day, but there may be longer or more challenging days involved. A good level of fitness and stamina is recommended.
Challenging
Itineraries with this rating will at times be difficult, but if you are in reasonably good physical condition and work out regularly, you shouldn’t struggle too much. Most trekking days will last five to six hours, but there may be times when this will be pushed to eight or higher.
Strenuous
For trips with this rating, we strongly recommend that you have previous trekking experience, and previous experience of trekking at high altitudes. You may be required to camp in extreme weather conditions, and to do some technical climbing.
